Purpose. Crew leaders use this template to record routine inspections of parks, playgrounds, reserves, revegetation sites and landscape projects and to raise defects for action.

1.Purpose

Regular inspection is how Greenfield finds hazards, defects and maintenance needs before they cause harm or a contract failure. This template is used for visual playground and park facility inspections, reserve and revegetation site inspections and landscape project progress inspections. Each inspection must be recorded and any defect raised as a work order.

2.Before the inspection

Check the previous inspection report and any open work orders for the site. Take the site plan, camera, measuring tape and hazard tape. Confirm the inspection type and the checklist that applies.

3.What to inspect

Walk the whole site in a set pattern so nothing is missed. Inspect every item on the checklist and record its condition, photographing any defect. For playgrounds, check surfacing depth, entrapment points, sharp edges, loose fixings and wear. For reserves and revegetation sites, check plant survival, guards, weeds, fencing, erosion and pest animal sign. For projects, check work against the drawings and specification.

  • Surfaces, paths and drainage
  • Structures, seats, signs and fences
  • Trees, plants, guards and weeds
  • Hazards to the public or workers
  • Progress against specification

4.Rating and action

Rate each defect by risk. Extreme or high risk defects must be made safe immediately with barriers or removal and reported to the supervisor by phone. Every defect must be entered as a work order with a due date that matches its rating.

5.Sign off and filing

The inspector signs the report, the supervisor reviews it within two working days and the report is filed against the site in the Work Orders system.
