Revegetation and Site Works Procedure

Purpose. This procedure sets out how conservation crews inspect, prepare, plant, seed and maintain revegetation sites and record works for clients and funding programs.

1.Scope

This procedure applies to revegetation, direct seeding, assisted regeneration and follow-up maintenance on client properties, reserves and Greenfield land. It applies to all crew members, volunteers and contractors working under Greenfield supervision.

2.Step 1: Ecological and cultural site inspection

Before any ground disturbance the crew leader must complete a site inspection covering existing native vegetation, weeds, threatened species records, waterways, cultural heritage sensitivity, access, hazards and neighbours. Where the site is culturally sensitive, works must not start until the relevant Traditional Owner group has been consulted and any required approvals are held.

3.Step 2: Site preparation

Weed control must be completed and recorded in the Chemical Use and Storage Register before planting. Fencing to exclude stock must be complete. Ripping or scalping must follow the contour and avoid remnant vegetation, drainage lines and identified cultural features.

4.Step 3: Planting and seeding

Use the species list and densities in the site plan, sourced from local provenance seed and tubestock recorded by batch. Plant tubestock into moist soil with tree guards where browsing is a risk. Calibrate the direct seeder for each seed mix and record the seeding rate. Water in where the plan requires.

5.Step 4: Biosecurity and hygiene

Clean boots, tools and vehicles before entering and leaving the site, visiting weed-infested sites last. Do not move soil, mulch or plant material between sites. Seed must be labelled with species, location, date and collector.

6.Step 5: Maintenance and monitoring

Schedule follow-up weed control, guard checks and infill planting at three, six and twelve months. Establish photo points and survival transects at planting and re-measure at each visit. Record every activity in the Field Activity Log against the site.

7.Records and reporting

The crew leader must complete the site inspection report, the Field Activity Log entries and the photo point record on the day of works. Monthly summaries are provided to clients and funding programs from the Work Orders and Field Activity Log.
